Following are the activities of Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha

All Religions Harmony Prayer

In the institute there is a harmony prayer of all religions at 7 a.m daily. All the members and Guests participate in this prayer meeting. Sometimes a special lecture of some intellectual is also arranged.

Festival–Celebration of Various Religions

Special prayers, conferences and public meetings are arranged on the festivals of various religions. Essay and other competitions as songs of Ramcharitmanas, the Geeta and Shabad of Guru Granthsaheb etc. are held to spread the spirit of Religious Harmony according to Gandhian thoughts.

Constructive Programmes:

Nursery School

Next door to our Ashram. There is a colony of the poorest and most neglected people of our society. Children from this colony come to our nursery school which was started in 1957. We provide them a healthy nutrition, a little knowledge of singing, learning letters through games.

Sewing Classes

We have a sewing training centre in the premises of the institute. Since 1960 this training is being given free of charge to the very poor women of the surrounding areas.

Charkha and Khadi Centre

Gandhiji called the Charkha the sun in centre of his nation building activities. The centre not only teaches spinning, but makes arrangements for exchanging the yarn for Cotton or Khaddar or any other basic need of lively hood as rice, soap, wheat, beans, copy books etc. More than 15 country’s representatives learnt spinning through this centre.

Computer Training Center

Per year approximately 150 students are trained in Basic Knowledge of Computer and DTP, Accounts, Internet and Computer Hardware (Card Level) etc.

Typing Center

Training is provided for Hindi and English Typing to youths of the surrounding colonies.

Library

Sannidhi boasts of a rich library with more than 30,000 valuable ancient and modern books. Books on all Indian and many foreign languages are available here, most of which are out of print on the day.

Center for Culture Awareness :

Minakshi Mathur Memorial Music-Dance Center

Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha is conducting music-dance classes following the syllabus of Prayag Sangeet Samiti. Classes of vocal and classical music and dance are held. Also, Gandhi Hindustani Sahitya Sabha is a focal examination centre of Prayag Sangeet Samiti in Delhi.

Samagra

(Children’s Theatre Workshop) for the all round development of children the institute organises three workshops in summer and other vacations. To generate awareness in the society, dramas and plays are prepared and performed.

Navodit Kalakar Samiti

To bring out the art of young artists a music evening is organised the last Saturday of each month. Many renowned classical singers and performers participate in this programme.

Indian Languages Harmony Centre

National Unity requires that we learn each other’s language. With this aim the institute started a centre for teaching different languages, Gujarati, Marathi, Urdu, Sanskrit, Tamil, Telegu, Kannad, Hindi, Punjabi, Malayalam etc.

Foreign Language Learning Centre

For many years foreign language like Arabic, Persian and Japanese are taught regularly. One year certificate and two year diploma courses are conducted.

Gandhi Sahitya Bhandar

We run a book-stall at the Gandhi Samadhi at Rajghat which is visited by thousands of visitors from all over India and abroad every day. They can browse here and purchase books on Gandhian ideology.

Literary Publication

The Sabha Prepares and publishes books in Hindi, Urdu, Gujarati, Marathi, English and other Indian languages on Gandhian and Sarvodaya Ideology.

Mangal Prabhat

This is a hindi monthly which 1st come into circulation on 26th January, 1950. It was edited by Kakasaheb himself for 30 years. The objective of the monthly is to spread the Gandhian philosophy in general and his Sarvodaya ideals in particular. Many magazines /Newspapers in the country reprint articles from this journal.

Competitions for School and College Students on Gandhian Thoughts and Lectures on Samanvya (Harmony)

In order to spread the Gandhian thoughts and ideology and with a view to acquaint people with our basic culture, competitions among colleges and school students are arranged, Essay competitions, patriotic song competitions, poetry competitions and drawing competitions are held regularly.

Acharya Kaka Saheb Kalelkar Universal Harmony Award

The institute rewards such a person or an organization, which has played a remarkable role in spreading and generating harmony among different cultures, castes, countries, civilizations and languages at national and international level. The award is given in collaboration of Kaka Kalelkar Sarvodaya Seva Trust.

Medical Treatment

Ayurvedic Treatment

This treatment is given every day. Patients from slum areas come and take proper treatment without any charge, this has been running for the last 49 years.

Sorojini Nanavati Memorial Homeopathic Treatment

In the memory of late president Sorojini Nanavati this small clinic was started and is running successfully.

Exhibition Section

Pictorial Exhibition on Kaka Saheb Kalelkar is organised in different places in India.

Kaka Saheb Kalelkar Museum

In the centenary year of our founder Acharya Kaka Saheb Kalelkar a small museum was inograted by then vice-President of India Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma. In this museum all the personal belongings of Kaka Saheb are kept.
